All about me

Fri Jan 2, 2009, 12:28 PM
Hello there,

No one knows much about me so here's a little description of me and my "photography".

I grew up and still reside in the Cambridgeshire fens. I got interested in photography purely because it was a course at the sixth form I was going to so decided to apply. I started combining photography with my other interest of watching local bands and starting taking photographs of my mates bands and whoever else they were playing with, alongside any projects that I had to do at uni.

I finished sixth form with some basic knowledge of photography and still shot my mates bands, and slowly started getting interest in portraits when I eventually went to uni. I started reading a lot of Vice Magazine and was interested in the kinda photography done in that, except I'm too lazy and got too glossy a camera I suppose. I also did a bit of temping for an events photography thing but it was terrible so decided to just stick to little bits of pieces of work here and there.

These days I like doing bands and portraits the most, a bit more arty than usual these days too.

Gear for people who are interested -

Canon 40D
Canon 300X
50mm 1.8
17-85mm f/4-5.6
28-90mm f/4-5.6
0.7x Wide Angle converter
whatever tripod and filters i can lay my hands on

also sometimes I can borrow peoples lomo, medium format and have access to large format stuff as well.

So many photographers, so little time

So for the first time in ages I went onto a DA chatroom and looked at some peoples work.

From people's profiles I went on, you can't really fault many of their photos at all - in fact, the majority were technically brilliant.

But....

there seems to act any real sort of artistic effort or style about the whole thing. Although I'm the same so I don't know why I'm complaining. No one came and looked at my photos until I put one of a pig up...

Much love

PS - Also, check out Tubelord, they are awesome - [link]

Got myself a new lens.

Commonally referred to as the "nifty fifty", it's a EF 50mm f/1.8 II lens. It looks very silly on my 40D but I'm very impressed with the results. Very sharp.

Hi kids!

I've dropped radio at university and taken up Photography again so expect a slew of work as I catch up, including work done on 5"x4"....

I should also be getting a Canon 40D soon enough so expect to see a little more output from me in the coming months or so.
